Present in the meeting was the executive governor of the state, the deputy governor, chief of staff, SSA mobilization, leaders of various non-indigenous community in the state and leaders of private sectors in the state.
The welcome address was given by the Chief of Staff; Biodun Omoleye appreciating every ethnic group and also prepared their minds for the Governor’s speech. The Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, who was welcomed amidst songs, and praises by the excited crowd, appreciated all for their support in the last gubernatorial election.
He called the forthcoming election END OF DISCUSSION/CONSOLIDATION ELECTION.
‘’The July gubernatorial election was a competition but this coming election is already a total victory and this victory cannot be achieved without soliciting for your total support because we do not take you for granted’’. These were the words of the Governor to the attendees soliciting their support for the president in the forthcoming election.
‘’If I want to be selfish, I will just go and sleep because I’m already the Governor by the Grace of God for the next four years but I choose not to do that because I love progress and also for the love I have for my people so whether you do it for Baba Buhari or for me, just make sure you support and if you support Fayemi, then you must support Buhari’’; the Governor said.
Speaking on security, the Governor made known that over 250 persons have been arrested and this is because the peace of the land is paramount to us and it is then people can sleep with their eyes closed and also spend the money they have in their pockets. We’re giving security a priority so that businesses can thrive and the land can be peaceful. We will not condone insecurity and criminality and as such we can’t afford to play Ludo with this election because we want progress.
In his words; the President might not be a sharp sharp or yahoo yahoo type, but his progress is visible, this progress might be slow but it is steady and it will not be reversed unlike the opposition candidate who is the sharp sharp type but there are always implications to sharp sharp business.
Speaking on the number of voters in the state, the Governor affirmed that we have about 906,000 registered voters in Ekiti, about 770,000 PVC has been collected while about 200,000 are still there. The Governor said he needs at least 70% votes of this figure but the people assured him of at least 80%.
INEC has also decided to make voting easier by doing accreditation and voting altogether at once. He has not forgotten the promises he made at the campaign and the empowerment program he promised. The people tagged the Governor with the name PROMISE KEEPER knowing that he is a man of his words.
Considering the short duration of publicity for the meeting, the Governor was impressed with the large turn out of the people affirming their love and support for the administration.
He therefore urged them to take the good news to their various churches, mosques, offices, markets, farms in all their local government between now and Saturday for the victory of Baba Buhari and also for the sake of our children.
Concluding his speech he said this election offers us the opportunity to alleviate poverty in the land completely and he knows that Ekiti people will join hands with him and vote in President Buhari.
He afterwards handed them over to the Chief of Staff and SSA MOBILIZATION; Prince Tunji Ogunlola to orientate them about mobilization in their various constituencies and local government.
