
The Nigeria Government has been urged to consider the series of people that commit suicide at any time and exclude any Law term that end the victim into Jail.
The Director for Nursing Education/Coordinator School of Post Basic Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Yaba Lagos, Mrs Ladipo Clegg disclosed this on Thursday at the 2019 World mental Health day celebration organised by the Association of Psychiatric Nurses Nigeria (APNON)Lasuth chapter, held at LASUTH Ikeja lagos,that it is high time government note that a lot of trauma and depressions from unemployment would have been the reasons why people commit suicide and not to use negative side of law to send the Suicides to jail but to consider the way of showing them Love.
Ladipo Clegg expressed in her Lecture delivered at LASUTH Theme:Suicide Prevention;Global Challenges Future Direction” that creating Job for Graduating students and more even in Enterprenurship style could reduce and address the rate of suicides in Nigeria because a lot of students and people on the streets of Nigeria today with problems of such are due to one Trauma and depressions.
She urged Lagos state government to install an effective and Active Crisis Hotlines on Bridges to reduce this Suicide attempts and Barriers and identify people at Risks for quick Assistance.
She stated how her college students Have created Awareness in yaba area during the Nurses week celbration last week against suicide attempt with the provisions of Website to address the issues of suicide.
She treated the topic carefully by presenting 4 types of Suicides we have that resulted to losing more people in the country sqq egoistic,Fatalistic,Altruistic anomic.She listed.
The Chairman forAPNON,Assistant Chief Nursing ward, mrs Dada Oluwatosin Adesola spoke that the Association way of celebrating the mental health was to sensitize Lagosians to show Love and prevent Suicide in Lagos by talking to people at home and relate with your nearest specialists to reduce the rate of suicides and encourage ourselves from beginning this preaching from homes.
Dada Oluwatosin appealed to the Lagos state government to put people who their properties have been demolished and have no homes any more into consideration even those who cannot afford to pay children school fees that led them to commit suicide results to mental Ill health.Please help and assist Lagosians for all to enjoy beautiful lives because the suicide in questions does not affect only the Graduating students/ unemployed alone but affects the professionals and Handicaps as it is also caused by recession in Nigeria.
Mrs Akinbola Aina(The Head of Nursing service)Lasuth,said life is not about more money making but is about making yourselves happy that commuting suicide is not the solution to your problems in life but it is bad.
The Head of Behavioural medicine department,LASUTH,Dr.Rotimi Coker begged the Lagos state government to consider this outreach because about 800,000 people commit suicide every year and that Nigeria parents and guidance too have a lot of roles to play taking it as a collective responsibilities.
