In a Police wireless message to all Police Commands across the 36 states of the Federation, dated 23rd January, 2020, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Headquarters (Abuja) informed that the Federal Government of Nigeria has given approval for the recruitment of Special Constables as a step forward to enhancing Community Policing nationwide.
According to the wireless message, the NPF further directed all Commands, Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to liaise with Traditional Rulers and community leaders in their respective Areas to form Screening Committee that will screen volunteers who must “be of good character” and will be eventually recruited as Special Constables.
The message also indicated that interested applicants must be between the ages of 21-50years old, with the willingness to serve their local communities.
Relevant Police Officers were thereby advised to study Section 49 and 50 of the Police Act for proper guidance on the process.
