Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,
Chief Mojisola Fafure has urged the 16 Local Government Councils in
the State to urgently set up the of local Government Child’s Right
Implementations and Monitoring Committee (LGRIC) towards boosting
gender equality and ensuring proper implementation of the Child’s
Right Laws.
Chief Fafure gave the charge in Ado Ekiti during a sensitization
meeting/training programme organised by the State Ministry of Women
Affairs and Social Development for Programs Officers, officials of the
Women units and other stakeholders in the implementation of relevant
Gender based laws on the need for establishment of local Government
Child’s Right Implementations and Monitoring Committee (LGRIC).
The Commissioner, who spoke through the Director, Social Welfare, in
the Ministry, Mrs. Olabisi Fatoba stressed the importance of
domesticating the Child’s Right Implementations and Monitoring
Committee.
Attributing the successful establishment of State Chapter of the
committee to the passionate disposition of Governor Fayemi to gender
issues, Fafure lamented that the committee became moribund for four
years under the immediate past administration until it was
resuscitated in mid-July last year, adding that the committee was
rejuvenated for efficient delivery of responsibilities towards
children in the state.
She enjoined all stakeholders across the 16 local governments to work
harmoniously towards ensuring safety of children against social vices,
all types of abuse and deprivation of their rights as entrenched in
Ekiti State Child’s Right Law 2006.
In her remarks, one of the participants, Mrs Bola Opaleye commended
the state government for taking such giant steps and pledged on behalf
of others to do their best towards the implementation of the child
right law at the Local Government level.
