#EndThe9jaTaxOnPads…Campaign by Dr Harvey Olufunmilayo
I’m happy to announce that the #EndThe9jaTaxOnPads proposal document has been received by the Senate President @SPNigeria of Nigeria @NGRSenate @nassnigeria
We are counting on Dr @bukolasaraki that this letter will be acted on.
We have tried our best to reach out to as many as we can. It has not been an easy job but somehow it has been pulled off. And not just the Senate President, we have addressed
The deputy senate president
The chairman senate committee on health
The chairman senate committee on women affairs
The speaker House of Representatives
And ALL the female senators in the Nigerian Senate.
Our convictions remain that the many problems of Nigeria cannot and will not be fixed by any magic wand but bu simple little things that the government can do to make life easier for many millions of people across the country particularly women and girls.
The burden of menstruation on a monthly basis is psychological and financial for about 30-40 million nigerian women and girls (if we do rough modest estimates).
It is impractical and unsustainable to expect government to give pads free but there’s a WHOLE LOT that can be done.
Government can ensure the VAT is actually never charged
Government can end the import duties
Government can give Pioneer Status and Tax holidays to local Pad Companies.
Government can make donations to Pad NGOs tax free
Government can make a simple policy that mandates provision of pads in all toilets of public institutions (just as you have toilet rolls, soap and water)
Government can make Menstrual Hygiene Education a compulsory part of the academic curriculum in schools
Now we can only hope and pray that someone will read this and listen to the yearnings of millions and give the propositions a thought.
We have done our bit.
Please retweet.
And also put out a tweet with #EndThe9jaTaxOnPads.
Your voice matters. Your support counts. Thanks
A holistic and comprehensive Menstrual Hygiene Document prepared with the aim to #EndThe9jaTaxOnPads and give other simple suggestions that the government may find helpful.
