On our moral principles
One of the moral principles that underpinned my quest for public office and my work in government all these years has been an unflinching sense of integrity, which has been informed by my background and upbringing as a true son of Ekiti. This is one of the values every worthwhile son or daughter of Ekiti acquires from his or her father and mother, and stands-by no matter the level of inducement coming along the horizon. For true measure, I was once described as the “Obama of Ekiti”, who was coming into public office to give life to the change and vision that was needed to make Ekiti the land of progress and development, while affirming its inherent integrity and honour. Also true to this, in the past three-and-a-half years, I and my team – in working with our good people in Ekiti – have been on the forward march in history; we have given life to the ideas that are making poverty history in Ekiti, whether in terms of our general intervention in governance, or our interventions in education, health, agriculture, industry, and infrastructural development, etc…
Then, what has changed? Nothing!!! Except for the evident lack of integrity of those who choose to speak with both sides of their mouth, especially in their struggle to lick or forcefully grab gravy from government, even when this comes at the expense of the greater number of people who will be made go to bed hungry every night; and who would be forced to make do with very little or nothing, despite their hard toils.
I have been described as one who has the overwhelming love of the people – he who the majority of the people want, and I believe that I have, more so, earned this love in my years of selfless service to our people in Ekiti. Hence, the rescue mission that I, and my colleagues in government, have embarked on to make poverty history in Ekiti State, which is the source of this affection, needs to be continued and taken deeper. This is our purpose for seeking re-election; our mission deserves to be accomplished – the people have voiced this, and I believe the Almighty has accented to it.
Nonetheless, we are reassured that people across our dear State have emphasised their commitment to protect their votes in a peaceful and lawful manner, as the need arises. May God continue to bless and keep Ekiti. Amen.
