Former House of Representatives member, Wunmi Ogunlola, has announced that she will not be contesting for a seat in the House of Representatives at the forthcoming general elections.
Ogunlola disclosed this on Friday during a press conference held in Ado-Ekiti, where she explained that her decision was based on constitutional and ethical considerations.
While citing the law that mandates public office holders intending to contest elections to resign from their current positions, she noted that taking any step to run for office at this time could negatively affect Ekiti State’s interests.
She stressed that the interest of the state must take precedence over personal political ambition, noting that leadership demands careful judgment and the ability to prioritise collective good.
Ogunlola further added that her decision followed consultations with members of her political structure and key stakeholders, adding that it became necessary to address speculations about her alleged 2027 ambition.
The former lawmaker, who currently serves as the federal commissioner representing Ekiti State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, described her current role as a critical national assignment which needs complete concentration and attention.
She, however, assured supporters that her empowerment initiatives and commitment to the welfare and development of Ekiti people would continue to take center stage in her thoughts and actions.
