The Director-General of the BAO Campaign Committee, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, has inaugurated 177 coordinators, described as “wise men,” to lead the party’s grassroots push across all wards in Ekiti State ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
The inauguration, which held on Friday at the MOB Situation Office in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti, signals what the campaign leadership described as a decisive move to consolidate support at the ward level and ensure total coverage of the state’s voting structure.
Addressing the gathering, Fasuyi said the exercise was not just about preparing for another election cycle, but about setting a political benchmark.
“We are here today because of the June 20 election. Politics is science, it requires planning, strategies and coordination,” he said. “What we are doing today is identifying those who will take responsibility for each of the 177 wards in Ekiti.”
He added that the campaign was not approaching the election as a contest in the traditional sense.
“We have told Ekiti people that this election is not just about victory, it is about history. If it is about winning, who are we really contesting against?” he said, pointing to what he described as a quiet opposition space.
Fasuyi explained that the newly inaugurated ward leaders would serve as the backbone of the campaign’s grassroots mobilisation, with a clear mandate to deliver results across all wards.
According to him, each of the 177 coordinators is expected to recruit nine additional members, forming a structured network that will drive engagement and feedback at the community level.
“Our goal is clear, to win all 177 wards. These wise men will help us achieve that by ensuring that everything we do reflects directly at the ward level,” he said.
On concerns about voter apathy, the campaign DG said the strategy behind the “wise men” initiative was specifically designed to address low voter turnout.
“That is exactly why they are here,” he noted.
He revealed that with 2,445 polling units across the state, the campaign had already begun deploying personnel to engage voters directly, moving from one community to another to drive awareness and participation.
“It is not about making noise. We have commissioned people who will go from one voter to another, sensitising them on the need to come out and vote on June 20,” Fasuyi added.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the APC campaign’s ground game, as the party intensifies efforts to secure a sweeping victory across all wards in the state.
