The Ekiti State Police Command has launched a Violence Crime Response Unit to boost efforts at safeguarding lives and properties across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, said the initiative followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to strengthen crime prevention and response.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, Falade described the unit as a rapid-response team set up to tackle violent crimes and respond swiftly to emergencies.
He said, “The establishment of this unit is a proactive step towards addressing the evolving security challenges in the state and ensuring timely response to distress situations.”
The police boss noted that the changing pattern of criminal activities made it necessary to create a specialised team equipped to handle emerging threats effectively.
According to him, operatives of the unit have begun intensive tactical and intelligence-driven training in preparation for full deployment
Falade further urged officers to uphold professionalism and respect for human rights, warning that any form of misconduct would not be tolerated, while also calling on residents to provide credible information.
He equally appreciated the support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the provision of logistics that enhanced operations as stakeholders including Lawrence Ogunsetire and Joshua Makinde pledged support for the new unit.
