The Chairman, Chieftaincy Review Commission (CRC) who doubles as the
Chairman, State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Justice
Babajide Aladejana has charged Ekiti people particularly leaders of
Communities seeking autonomy or inclusion to prove their numerical
strength through massive voting during the Local Government Elections
slated for 7th December, 2019.
Justice Aladejana gave the advice during his four-day fact finding
tour to various communities requesting for autonomy in the State to
authenticate their claims before the Commission regarding land
boundaries and Artifacts.
The Chairman who noted that part of what makes a Community to stand on
its own was its capability to run the finances and the upkeep of such
Community without relying on government, stressed that Communities
that have their virgin lands some kilometers away from their host
Communities should go and develop them.
He explained that three out of the five phases that could qualify a
Community for autonomy have just been concluded, saying that the
Commission would still collate the evidences, write its reports and
submit same to the State Government for consideration.
Justice Aladejana who described communication and cooperation as the
key for people to come together for progress and development as it is
the usual practice in some Countries like United Kingdom (UK),
maintained that people could negotiate their co-existence through
dialogue and understanding rather than through crisis and unrest.
The Chairman assured the affected Communities that the Commission
would look into their grievances and claims critically, adding that it
would not also jeopardize the confidence reposed in it by the State
Government.
It would be recalled that the State Government recently set up
Aladejana Panel of Enquiry to look into thirty-three requests from
different Communities seeking autonomy in Ekiti State.
