
There are indications that the newly-appointed Vice Chairman (South) of All Progressives Congress, Abiola Ajimobi, may likely become the Acting National Chairman of the party.
This followed Wednesday suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman and the hurried release of the names of new national officers of the party, including that of Ajimobi, who was a former Governor of Oyo State.
Oshiomhole was suspended by Justice Danlami Senchi of the FCT High Court.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu, late on Wednesday disclosed that a meeting of the National Working Committee held on January 14, 2020 reached a decision to appoint new national officers.
Going by the provision of Article 14.2 of the APC Constitution 2010 (as amended), the Deputy National Chairman (South) should assume the office of Chairman of the party in an acting capacity in the case of the absence national chairman, if he or she is from the South.
Article 14.2 ( i, ii, iii) of the constitution stipulates the functions of the Deputy National Chairman, North/South.
It reads in part: “Assist the national chairman in the discharge of his duties; Perform such functions as may be assigned to him from time to time by the National Working Committee; Shall act as the national chairman in the absence of the national chairman from his Zone.”
