Kayode Ojo, a former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, says the recent happenings in the state House of Assembly should be condemned by all lovers of democratic principles.
He made the assertion on Wednesday in a statement issued by his Media Director, Alhaji Deji Ayelabowo, in Ado-Ekiti.
According to Ojo, the leadership crisis that ensued shortly after the sudden death of the former Speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, has not only led to high display of insensitivity, but an embarrassment to the state.
He said: “The leadership crisis supposed not to be the immediate problem of the state assembly, but other things that are capable of making the state grow.
“It is childish and arrogant, a situation whereby some members of the state Assembly, allegedly claimed to have impeached a newly elected Speaker, Gboyega Aribisogan, (APC-Ikole I) and just few days after, purportedly elected Mrs Bunmi Adelugba, (APC-Emure) as another Speaker.
“The fact that some of the drama that played out in the Assembly were done in half secret or completely in an undisclosed location, while also barring journalists from its coverage, it amounted to a terrorist attack against the people of the state.”
Ojo said that members of the house, who claimed to have met, do not have such powers since their seats had been declared vacant by the Aribisogan-led Assembly, which, therefore, made their action “illegal and terrorism-like”.
He said: “With all the crisis in the House of Assembly, it is also surprising to see Mr Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor, keeping mute. This seems to imply that he is not in charge.
“With the leadership silence, Ekiti people can now see what we are saying that the Governor before him, wanted a third term, hence, he installed his stooge.
“Let us make it clear that we are not talking in the capacity of either Aribisogan or Adelugba.
“Because, we don’t even know their capacity; but, it became a thing of concern; we thought that the situation had gone with the once garrulous period in the political history of the country.
“The development is a desecration of the Assembly in a terrorist operations, aided and abetted by those in Police uniform.
“Let it, therefore, be known that there is no deed that will go unrewarded, either good or bad.”
Ojo, therefore, called on all Ekiti elites, both at home and abroad, to rise to the occasion.
He added: “How could you have someone on a seat, under whom the House of Assembly operates and had remained mute, watching the disgraceful scenario unfolding.
“This is simply no action, but a terrorist attack on the people of the state and we have all seen now that a bad tree can and will not bear a good fruit.
“We are very confident that the Almighty God will pass through the land of Ekiti and this evil period shall pass away.”
The APC chieftain urged everyone in the state to be law abiding and go about their lawful activities without any fear, harassment or molestation.
