According to an organization called Think Yoruba First, the attacks on Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka by backers of Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, are directed against Yoruba heritage. It claimed that irredentist Igbo fanaticism, fueled by hatred, a cultural deficit, avarice, and a shocking contempt for democratic culture, was the only reason behind the Obidients Movement.
Think Yoruba First claimed that Soyinka was one of few men of honour when it came to protecting democracy and fundamental human rights in Nigeria and around the world in a statement that was signed by the organization’s general secretary, Dr Bukola Adeniji. It denounced attempts by Obi followers to advance the Igbo dominance thesis, which they claimed was driven by fabrications of history, haughtiness, and a ferocious lust for unrelenting acts of violence. Some of the best Yoruba experts from both home and the Diaspora make up the Think Yoruba First organization.
