OPEC push on fossil fuels draws ire at climate talks Negotiations over the future of fossil fuels heated up at UN climate talks on Saturday, with OPEC catching flak over the oil cartel’s push to block any phase-out in the final deal. Ukraine has cast a sharp eye over Britain’s own armament – REUTERS/Valentyn Ogirenko The Nato nations of Europe face an ever-deepening crisis. Russia and China are arming at pace, the former now transitioning to a full war economy. While the US remains stronger than both put together, and the heroic Ukrainian resistance has Moscow’s forces tied down, both these things could change quickly. Worse still, there has been a political shift in America. The Trumpite wing of the Republican party does not, I believe, reflect what most Americans want; yet Trump became President and may well again because of terrible Democrat candidates.…

But, says Suella Braverman, as a parent of a two-year-old, that has not necessarily meant more sleep. “My daughter still wakes up at 3am,” she sighs. “But, yes, I don’t need to worry about the national-security issues.” Suella Braverman, the former home secretary – Paul Grover/Paul Grover Braverman, 43, describes the responsibilities of home secretary – which include signing off on MI5 surveillance warrants – as a “heavy burden”. “[Officials] do call at any time and you’ve got to…

Immigration continues to dominate the news agenda – and is splitting the government. Rishi Sunak has been in crisis this week over his Rwanda policy to deal with illegal immigration. The plan is to send people who arrive in the UK by irregular means – such as on small boats across the English Channel – on a one-way trip to Rwanda, where its government would decide on their refugee status. On November 26, 2023, the Oba of Benin ignited a huge controversy about the early history of Lagos. He did so by making the claim that the Edo people of the Benin Kingdom were the founders of Lagos. Because the crown worn by the Oba of Benin originated from Ife, we must be respectful in our answer to him. The Oba, in an admirably polished speech, made the following statements – that “Lagos was founded by Benin”; that “Benin founded the nucleus of Lagos”; and that “Benin founded the origin of Lagos”. Most respectfully, what we will do is to…
