
The Unions in the aviation sector on Monday staged a protest at Ibadan Airport, and Malam Aminu Kano International Aiport, Kano as against a concession attempt of four international airports by the Federal Government.
The workers under the umbrella of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National Union of Air Transport Employee (NUATE) have converged on the airport premises to stage a protest saying the action was to prevail on the federal government to have a rethink in a positive direction.
The Chairman of Air Transport Service, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria,ATSSSAN at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA Comrade Sama’ila Muhammad Alkali, said the protest was organised to also reject in totality the movement of FAAN Staff to contributory pensions.
He explained that concession poses job loss in the aviation industry and a threat to national security.
Meanwhile, domestic flight operations were not affected by the peaceful protest as passengers were seen embarking on their busy movement. correspondent King Richard reports that National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, ANAP and the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association, ATSSSAN, say the action was to prevail on the federal government to have a rethink in a positive direction.
