The Aiyegunle Ekiti Leaders of Thought Forum Worldwide has declared full support for the dethronement of Oba Folorunsho Aderiye, the Alayegunle of Ayegunle Ekiti, citing gross abuse of power, intimidation, and human rights violations.
Spokesman for the forum, Mr. Idowu Julius, said the monarch’s reign had left the community in fear, with reports of arbitrary arrests and harassment of high chiefs and youths.
He described the kingmakers’ decision to remove Aderiye as long overdue and essential for restoring peace.
The forum applauded the bravery of the kingmakers, led by High Chief Ilesanmi Olugola (Eesa of Ayegunle Ekiti), who joined four others to declare the royal seat vacant after 27 years of Aderiye’s rule.
The group also lauded the Ekiti State Government, especially Deputy Governor Chief Monisade Afuye, for encouraging peaceful resolution, and called for continued state support during the leadership transition.
The dethronement was said to align with constitutional and traditional laws, including the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers Law, which provides for removal of monarchs who abuse their positions.
The forum pledged to back the kingmakers and work towards a new era of peace, justice, and development in Ayegunle Ekiti.
