Commissioner, Board Chairman tour hospital facilities
Ekiti State Government has promised to give a facelift to the State
Specialist Hospital, Ado-Ekiti and all the General Hospitals across
the state to fit into the present day ideal hospital.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola
Yaya-Kolade gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti during the inspection tour
to the secondary health care facilities across the 16 local government
areas of the state.
Dr. Yaya-Kolade expressed her displeasure over the infrastructural
defects of some secondary health care facilities, describing it as
ramshackle and worrisome.
“This is very disheartening that our hospitals are in this pitiable
condition. This is where Kayode Fayemi government left it in 2014 and
we are coming to meet it again in 2019. It’s obvious that the last
administration did not do anything here. It is very bad”. She said.
Also the Chairman, Ekiti State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Bayo
Orire lamented the poor state of the hospitals in Ekiti, attributing
the infrastructural decadence of the health facilities to the
nonchalant attitude of the immediate past government to the health of
the Ekiti people.
Dr. Orire who commended the staff of the facilities for enduring
working in such a pitiable environment promised that the Kayode Fayemi
administration is back in the saddle of Ekiti state government to
bring back sanity to the dilapidated condition of the hospitals in
Ekiti state.
The chairman urged the staff in the hospitals to be more committed to
their duties and improve on their health care service delivery to
their patients, stressing that their assignment is a service to
humanity.
The Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Williams
Afolabi explained that the purpose of the visit to the hospitals is to
ascertain the true condition and mode of operations in the various
hospitals as well as the prevailing challenges in the area of
equipment and infrastructure to enable government fashion out
reasonable solution that would ensure quality health service delivery
to Ekiti residents.
He noted that some facilities are underutilized and urged the staff to
renew their commitment in giving their best to Ekiti health care
services.
Some staff of the hospitals who pleaded anonymity appealed that the
state government should come to their aid by making their working
environment more conducive and supply contemporary health equipment to
enable them put in their best.
Hospitals visited include Oba Adejugbe General hospital, Ado-Ekiti,
General Hospitals in Iye, Ilupeju, Itapa, Ifaki, Emure and Oye-Ekiti
as well as the State Specialist Hospitals in Ikere, Ikole, and
Ijero-Ekiti.
