COMMUNIQUE AT THE END OF THE CONGRESS OF ONDO STATE CHAPTER OF THE SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (SWAN), HELD ON JULY 23 AT THE NUJ PRESS CENTRE, AKURE.
1) SWAN in Ondo State congratulates the new commissioner for youth and sports development in the state and urged him to use his wealth of experience to promote sports development in the state.
2) The association urges well meaning Nigerians to come to the rescue of former Sunshine Queens goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko, who is currently battling with cancer of the breast.
3) Ondo SWAN advises the state government and the management of Sunshine Stars to begin early preparations for the incoming soccer season so as to avoid a situation where the team will be battling relegation.
4) The association calls for fairness in resolving the Nationwide League One (NLO) matter as it affects the match between Akure City FC and Ajiroba Ooni FC where the visitors from Ife defeated the home team 9-2.
5) Ondo SWAN appreciates the management of the state sports council for its support for the association, especially the provision of a secretariat for the body and calls on the the council to do its best in solving the problems associated with the non payment of allowances of athletes to improve their output.
