The South South Buhari Anti-Corruption Group on Friday asked the Presidency to probe the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress over the allegation that it was financially induced to favour Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for the forthcoming Edo State governorship election.
Recall that the NWC had a meeting on Thursday where it resolved on many issues concerning the state gubernatorial poll.
The Anti-Corruption Group in a statement by its President, Imafidon Peter Odion, alleged that members of the NWC were influenced to tilt their decision towards favouring a particular aspirant against the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.
Odion stated: “The members were induced by a drug and oil baron from the state to ensure that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu gets a waiver from the party.”
The group further alleged that some of the party leaders received nothing less than N5 million each to grant Ize-Iyamu a waiver.
The only way Ize-Iyamu can participate in the Edo State election was to be granted a waiver because he has not spent up to a year in the party.
He contested the last governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
It was also gathered that the money was given by the drug and oil baron to fast track and facilitate Ize-Iyamu’s waiver.
Odion, while urging President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the allegation was probed, added that the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, should be questioned over the development.
He reminded the President that his mantra is war against corruption, adding that the allegation of corruption against the NWC on the waiver granted to Ize-Iyamu should not be swept under the carpet.
Odion pointed out that the only way Nigerians would take the APC government seriously is to see President Buhari-led government walking the talk by bringing to book those accused of corruption.
