
Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to the delivery
of affordable and unbiased Healthcare services to the residents of the
state.
The Chairman of the Ekiti State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Adebayo
Orire stated this during a working visit of the Honorable Members of
the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Human Services
and HIV/Aids to the Board in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Orire stated that the Board has been working hard to ensure that
all the 19 General Hospitals and the Three Specialist Hospitals in
the state which are under the supervision of the Board are given
facelifts and necessary attention in order to deliver well on its
mandate.
“Our Hospitals are equipped with best hands anyone can get in the
world but we have challenges in the areas of accommodation,
infrastructure, mobility, office equipment and inadequate running
grants”. The chairman noted.
Dr. Orire appealed to the Committee members to help in formulating
enabling laws for the smooth running of Government Hospitals across
the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management
Board, Dr. Williams Afolabi stated that the function of the board was
basically service delivery
Dr. Afolabi noted that Hospitals Management Board, being an
intermediary body between the primary and tertiary health facilities
is an integral part of the Social Investment Policy of the present
administration.
“The major challenge we’re facing at the Board today is the attitude
of our personnel to posting, especially while posted outside the state
capital. Everybody wants to work in Ado-Ekiti.” The Permanent
Secretary noted.
“Please help us appeal to relevant stakeholders to stop influencing
the posting of our officers so that we will have good hands in all our
facilities especially at the rural areas”. He pleaded.
In her response, the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Human
services and HIV/Aids in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Honorable
Teju Okunyiga said that the visit of the members was to familiarize
themselves with the activities of the Board.
Honorable Okunyiga said she was impressed with the state of things at
the Hospitals Management Board, describing Board Members and the
Management Team as persons of impeccable characters that can deliver
well on their mandate and transform the Board massively.
The Committee Chairman assured the Board of its support and also of
the commitment of the State House of Assembly towards formulating
enabling laws that would ensure easy access to affordable and unbiased
healthcare services to all Ekiti residents irrespective of locations.
“We will collaborate with you to ensure that Ekiti residents get best
out of this current administration”. She assured.
