
• Calls for more sensitization to abate the trend
The Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr.
Olawale Fapohunda has decried the increase in violence against women
and children in Nigeria despite concerted efforts of some states like
Ekiti which has been put critical measures in place to curtail the
trend.
Fapohunda, while on a courtesy visit to the Ekiti State Head of
Service, Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi in his office in Ado-Ekiti said the
horrible social menace should be curtailed before it gets out of hand.
He called on the Head of Service to help sensitise members of the
through the public servants in the state and the need for the public
servants to complement the efforts of the Ekiti State Government and
the Ministry of Justice in curbing the menace in the State.
The Commissioner for Justice appreciated the Head of Service for his
support on the recently concluded Mock Examination conducted for Legal
Officers in the State and the Attorney General’s Colloquium held in
the state in September, 2019.
The Attorney General pleaded that more Legal and Non-legal Officers be
employed in the Ministry of Justice, particularly those who have been
working as contract staff for a long time.
He also called on the Head of Service to encourage civil servants to
register their assets and liabilities to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy
in delimitating property of public servants in the state.
In his remarks, the Head of Service appreciated the Attorney General
for the visit, giving him assurance that he would take necessary steps
within his capacity to do the needful on the issues raised by the
Attorney General.
In another development, the Attorney General and Commissioner for
Justice also visited the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Sir
Patrick Olubunmi Famosaya.
In his discussions with the Civil Service Chairman, Fapohunda
re-emphasised the need to recruit more lawyers into the Ministry of
Justice to enhance Professionalism in handling legal matters in the
civil service.
Sir Famosaya, while responding, said the civil Service would
collaborate with the Ministry of Justice to enhance Professionalism.
