The Special Adviser to Governor Kayode Fayemi on security matters, Brigadier Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd) has once again reiterated the importance of Police Community Relations Committee in combatting crimes through intelligence gathering on criminal activities within the neighbourhood.

Retired Major General Ogundana while receiving the Executives of the Committee covering all the Area Commands said the PCRC that is expected to actively participate in all Police-community related programmes that have direct bearing on community policing is expected to render assistance in the area of overall safety and security of lives and properties across the state.
The Special Adviser, who assured that the requests of the Committee would be presented to the Governor and his response communicated back to the committee.
The SA, who noticed sharp improvement in the security situation in the State since the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi came on board, called for unalloyed cooperation on the issue so that absolute peace could be enjoyed throughout the state.
While calling on members of the PCRC to identify various security challenges confronting the state with the aim of tackling them head long, Ogundana urged all security agencies operating in the state to assist in this area.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, who is also the State Chairman of the PCRC, Mr. Victor Makinde while congratulating Governor Fayemi on his election as Chairman, Governor’s Forum in Nigeria called for joint effort in ensuring that absolute peace was guaranteed across Ekiti state.

The visit, according to the Chairman was to intimate the Governor on the Security Summit scheduled to come up on June 13 this year as he has been billed to deliver a keynote address during the Summit.
Mr. Makinde, who also requested that the Governor grants a Bus to the Committee to assist it in carrying out assigned operation of surveillance and security information gathering as the committee is expected to give reports to the police on an almost regular basis.
The Summit, according to him would both create necessary awareness and educate the general public on how genuine peace could be continually sustained across the state.
It would equally help in liaising with stakeholders for general police direction, guidance and assistance in order to provide quality service for a safe neighbourhood, the Ekiti PCRC chairman stated further.
It could be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari recently gave his approval to community policing.
The Police Community Relations Committee would not only assist the police in the war against crime, it would also foster a better relationship and understanding between the Police and their host community.
