Ekiti receives 385 Megaphones from WHO
The Ekiti State Government has restated its commitment to
all-encompassing quality health care services across the state as it
received a consignment of 385 megaphones donated by the World Health
Organization (WHO) to the state health sector.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. (Mrs.)
Mojisola Yahaya-Kolade gave the hint while receiving the publicity
gadgets from the World Health Organization (WHO), in Ado-Ekiti.
The Health Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent
Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Pham Olabisi
Arogundade at the function, noted that the donation was timely and
apt for the immediate need of the state health sector to intensify its
heath awareness campaign at the grassroots and hard to reach parts of
the state.
Dr. Yaya-Kolade appreciated the donor partner for the generous
donation promising that the megaphones would be used appropriately and
judiciously to disseminate health information to the people.
She added that the outstanding commitment of Dr. Kayode Fayemi to good
health of Ekiti people which was widely acknowledged attracted this
height of donation from international donors like WHO.
The Commissioner charged the health officers to ensure that the
publicity equipment is properly used for the purpose they are meant for.
She said with over 385 megaphones across the 16 LGAs of the state,
people at the hard to reach areas would get more health information
and sensitization more than ever before.
Earlier, the World Health Organization consultant, Dr. (Mrs.)
Olufunmilola Kolude said the gesture was as a result of the feedbacks
received from the outbreak response to polio in Ekiti where people at
the hard to reach areas complained of not getting the health
information at the appropriate time.
“The issue of megaphones were conceived as result of the noticeable
gap in information and sensitization of people especially people
residing at the hard to reach areas of the state”, She noted.
Dr. Kolude said the donation will help all the transit teams to have
megaphones that would be used to sensitize people at the rural areas
for outreach programmes , urging local government areas to ensure that
the megaphones are properly used and maintained.
