Fapohunda, Team Pay Working visit to EKSU VC, Law Faculty
The Attorney General and Honourable Commissioner for Justice in Ekiti State, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda and his team from the Ministry of Justice with Some Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly has paid a working visit to the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Edward Olanipekun and other top managerial cadres of the University on Wednesday,5th of February, 2020.
The Honourable Commissioner for Justice, while speaking at the occasion said he had the directive of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to visit the University on the need to develop the University’s Faculty of Law and improve on the Faculty of Law Students’ yearly intake to the Nigerian Law School by the Council of Legal Education.
Olawale Fapohunda, while addressing the University’s Management Team emphasized the need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Justice and the University, especially with the Faculty of Law on the internship of Students, Staff Exchange, publication of Palace Court Judgement, development of web-based or online journal publication and publication of Ekiti State High Court Judgements among others. According to him, “There is need for progress, so that we can compete with our counterpart across the globe.” He however stressed the need for members of Academic Staff of the Faculty of Law to shun all forms of strife and disagreements which are capable of impeding or reversing the progress made over the years.
While responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Edward Olanipekun appreciated the Honourable Attorney General for the visit and assured him that there is no cause for alarm, promising to do the needful to ensure the University and its Faculty of Law develops.
The University Don said the Ekiti State University will sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Justice as requested.
The Registrar of Ekiti State University, Akin Arogundade, Esq., on his part appreciated the Honourable Attorney General for the structural framework targeted at developing the Faculty of Law, Ekiti State University, put in place by the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice.
In another development, the Honourable Attorney General and his Team visited the Management and Staff of the Faculty of Law, Ekiti State University.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Isaac Olutoyin Babatunde while welcoming the Attorney General’s Team to the Faculty, appreciated the role of the Ekiti State Government led by His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi in the last accreditation exercise of the Faculty by the Nigerian Universities Commission.
Babatunde however called on the Attorney General to help in the second leg and fast-approaching Accreditation exercise of the Faculty that would be done by the Council of Legal Education.
Some members of Staff of the Faculty of Law who speaks in turn called on the Attorney General to assist the Faculty to increase her quota at the Nigerian Law School.
Professor Gabriel Dada Oke, while speaking, called on the Attorney General to help with the Accreditation process, since the Attorney General is a statutory member of the Council of Legal Education.
Professor Timothy Ifedayo Akomolede, in his remarks, called for less interference by outsiders in order to engender working harmonious relationship amongst the staff of the Faculty of Law. He said though conflict is inevitable especially in a work-place, however it should be managed in a manner that such would not affect the collective goal and harmonious relationship. He therefore pleaded that each and every member of the Faculty should promote peace and harmonious relationship.
The Head of Department, Business and Industrial Law of the Faculty, Dr. (Mrs) Bolanle Eniola in her remarks appreciated the Honourable Attorney General & his team for the visit.
Eniola, however, called on the Attorney General to help facilitate leadership training for the leaders of the Faculty, so that the interests of their subordinate staff could be well protected and eradicate marginalisation.
The Attorney General, while responding said a committee would be set up to look into critical issues identified.
Olawale Fapohunda therefore called for amicable resolutions of all conflicts in order to have a harmonious relationship between Staff of Faculty of Law.
