…sues for peaceful co-existence among religious bodies.
As part of Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration’s efforts to foster peace and tranquility among communities, the Ekiti State Chapter of the Inter-Religious Council of Nigeria (INREC) has been inaugurated accordingly.
Part of the objectives of the Council is to promote peace and establish a bond among all religious bodies in Ekiti State.

Speaking at the Inauguration of the State Chapter of INREC, Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji who represented Governor Kayode Fayemi said that the government is keen on ensuring peaceful co-existence of various religious bodies in the state adding that the religious community in any state is important to the socio-economic development of that state.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you all to today’s event for the inauguration of Ekiti State Chapter of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council. You are all aware that this body (NIREC) has been put in abeyance since 2014. In recognition of the relevance of religious leaders in governance, His Excellency, Dr. Kayode Fayemi approved the resuscitation of this body as part of the ongoing attempt at ‘Restoring our Values’.
“However, be informed that the need for equal and quality representation had necessitated the recognition of this body to include some new members. I, therefore, welcome back old members and also congratulate the new members on your appointment,” he said.
According to the SSG, the reconstruction and inauguration of this Committee are no doubt timely considering the roles expected of NIREC in ensuring peaceful co-existence especially as we prepare for the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Ekiti State.

“This Government, being an inclusive one, is committed to utilizing quality inputs from all stakeholders to provide good governance for the people of Ekiti State. NIREC is therefore expected to promote peaceful co-existence amongst people of diverse religious affiliations in the state.
“Let me, therefore, use this opportunity to appreciate Mr. Governor for the reconstitution of this Committee. While I congratulate members for today’s inauguration, I enjoin you to justify the trust and confidence reposed in you through genuine and sincere advice to Government and to also promote effective coordination of your adherents to support Government’s progarmmes at all times.
