Ekiti state government has closed down two hospitals in Ado-Ekiti for
flouting the rules of medical practice in Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola
Yaya-Kolade, who led the anti-quackery team, said the committee has
discovered that there are some hospitals in Ekiti where quacks carry
out caesarean section and eventually kill patients.
She highlighted the hospitals sealed as Divine Citadel Hospital,
Ajilosun and Adedamola Hospital, Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti.
Yaya-Kolade divulged that the hospitals were sealed about a month ago
and the proprietors went behind the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and
Human Services to remove the seal and continued operating.
“We found a lady who is not a nurse injecting a patient and a quack
doctor carrying out a caesarean section on a patient suffering from
appendicitis. We found a speculum and a regular knife being used for
operation in a very dirty environment”. She said.
Ekiti Health Commissioner commended the joint efforts of Dr. Kayode
Fayemi and all members of the anti-quackery team at ensuring that
medical quackery is stamped out of Ekiti State.
She therefore urged Ekiti residents to desist from patronizing fake
hospitals, adding that arrangement is on towards ensuring that doctors
display their certificate at the entrance of their hospitals to show
their authenticity.
In an interview, the Secretary of the Landlord Association of Moferere
Community, Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, where the hospitals are situated, Mr.
Ajisola Alao, appreciated the State Government and the committee on
their efforts and pleaded that such efforts be intensified to save
more lives from quack doctors as it is difficult for the residents of
the area to differentiate quacks from authentic doctors.
He however promised that the association will be ready to cooperate
with the Ekiti State Government to expose quacks henceforth.
