
EKSG inaugurates 7-man committee in preparation for sports summit
As part of preparation for the proposed sports summit scheduled to
hold between September and November this year, the Ekiti State
Government has constituted a 7- man organising committee towards
ensuing the success of the summit
The committee which is headed by the Permanent Secretary in the State
Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Yemi Owoseni, is made up
of the Director of sports in the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti,
Evangelist Abejide Adesogan, representatives of the National Youth
Council of Nigeria, Mr. Adedamola Gbenga and the State Ministry of
Finance, Mr. Gbenga Ajayi.
Other members of the committee are the Chairman of Sports Writers
Association of Nigeria, Mr. Deji Ogunsakin and a former General
Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr. Adewumi Olukayode (JP).
Speaking during the official inauguration of the committee, the
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Michael Awopetu
explained that the focus of the Fayemi-led administration is to
discover hidden talents and encourage talented youths.
The commissioner added that government was determined to gainfully
engage the youths with sports stressing that one the cardinal
objectives of his Ministry is to take them out of the streets and get
them engaged in productive activities.
Awopetu urged members of the committee to work assiduously towards
achieving the desired goals and stressed the need for them to justify
the confidence reposed in them by the state government.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports,
Mr. Yemi Owoseni who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee
of the State Sports Summit, pledge on behalf of other members to live
up to expectation in the task given to the committee.
Owoseni said no stone would be left unturned to ensure the success of
the proposed summit.
