Baba Japan, my mechanic regaled me with the story of when he was a senior mechanic at Elizade Motors.
Chief Michael Ade Ojo actually sent some of them to Japan to learn how to fix Toyota engine.
He told me of how they mobilized to pressure Chief to increase their salary, Chief sat them down and explained to them that he and his wife are salary earners in the same company.
He told them that if he increases their salaries, that the salary of he and his wife too will have to increase.
They didn’t believe him.
He called in the accountant and asked the accountant in front of them why his salary was reduced the previous month.
The accountant explained to them that Chief didn’t show up for work in two days that’s why his daily pay for those days were deducted from his salary.
The angry workers dropped their agitation and focused on making Elizade Motors a better company, because if Elizade doesn’t make more money their salary won’t increase.
