
Fayemi charges corps members on national unity and transformation
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has charged the 2019 Batch ‘A’
corps members deployed to the state to initiate and execute programmes
that will positively transform the state and continually endear the
scheme to the heart of the people.
Speaking in Emure/Ise-Orun National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
Orientation Camp during the official opening and swearing-in ceremony
of the corps members, Dr. Fayemi urged them to outshine their
predecessors that had contributed immensely to the development of the
state in the areas of environmental sanitation, education,
infrastructure, agriculture, health care services amongst others.
The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State
Government, Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji noted that Ekiti was able to achieve
the height of ‘freest and fairest elections’ in the nation consequent
upon the contribution of all stakeholders, especially corps members.
Governor Fayemi enjoined them to see their enrolment into the
scheme at this crucial time as an opportunity to contribute their
quota to the sustenance of democratic governance in the country and
champion the crusade against social vices such as restiveness, drug
peddling and addiction, corruption, fake news peddling, robbery etc.
Describing the scheme as one that epitomizes the true symbol of
oneness, Dr. Fayemi counseled them to shun divisive comments capable
of disrupting the unity of the nation.
He urged them to join hands with the government to defend and
sustain existing peace in the state, in particular and the nation,
generally.
The Governor, who urged the corps members to take all
programmes arranged for them serious as these would assist to face
future challenges assured them of government’s continuous support and
cooperation towards making their stay at the camp conducive.
Earlier, the State Coordinator for the National Youth Service
Corps (NYSC), Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete expressed appreciation to the
Governor for developing special interest in the welfare of the corps
members.
Mrs. Okpongete explained that various activities have been
lined up for the corps members to make them imbibe the ideals of the
scheme which would enable them contribute to the development of the
nation.
The peak of the event was presentations from the NYSC Dance
Troupe and the NYSC Man ‘O’ War group.
