Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has assured that his
administration will not renege on his promise to spread development to
all communities in the State.
Speaking at the 30th Ijurin Day celebration in Ijurin Ekiti, the
governor lamented that developmental projects were concentrated in
larger communities at the expense of smaller ones, leading to a
neglect of the many rural communities.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State
Government, Mr Biodun Oyebanji said his administration will ensure
even spread of projects so that all communities can enjoy the
dividends of democracy.
While recalling that his first administration between 2010 and 2014
undertook a minimum of six projects in each of the 132 communities of the State,
the governor said his re-election was made possible as a result of the
support he got from all the communities; adding that he would not fail
to fulfil the promises he made to them during his campaign for his
re-election.
Dr Fayemi said his administration had recently distributed cheques
totaling #180 million to 19 communities for community-based social
development projects.
He however called on the citizens to complement the efforts of
government so that there could be sustainable development, even as he
reiterated continuous engagement of community leaders in addressing
the challenges facing each community.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Staff to the Governor who
also hails from Ijurin Ekiti, Mr Biodun Omoleye thanked the people for
supporting the Fayemi-led administration and urged them to continue to
partner the government since government alone cannot provide all they
desire.
Omoleye promised that the Fayemi-led government will not fail the
people of Ekiti State as the administration is poised to give a new
lease of life to the citizenry.
Earlier in his address, the Ojurin of Ijurin, Oba Adeyemi Afolabi had
solicited the continued cooperation of all indigenes of the community
so as to promote both socio-economic and industrial development of the
town.
The event was well attended by members of Ekiti State House of
Assembly and the State Executive Council as well as dignitaries from
different parts of the country.
