
Fayemi to tackle human trafficking, child labour, others
Ekitii State government is poised to tackle human trafficking, child
labour and other social vices that subject people to slavery and
militate against their freedom.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wale Fapounda stated this
during a meeting of the State Committee of National Agency for
Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NATIP) in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner who said the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi was
eager to eradicate from the state noted that poor standard of living
and unemployment among others often contribute to the rise of the
vices.
He said efforts would be made to track down traffickers and ensure
that perpetrators of child labour are brought to book.
He also opined that agricultural and technical education revolution as
being championed by the current administration in the state would
ensure that thousands of youths are taken off the street.
The Zonal Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Human
Trafficking in Persons, (NATIP) Mrs. Akomolafe kehinde assured that
the committee would partner with stakeholders in the media industry to
ensure intense awareness campaign in Ekiti to further educate
residents on the inherent dangers of human trafficking, child labour
and other dehumanizing activities.
She appealed to the members of the committee to be pragmatic in their
approach to the social menace so that such inhuman acts could be
completely stamped out of the state.
In their remarks, the Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Obas, Oba
Micheal Ademolaju and the State Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba
noted that databank should be established to ensure effective tracking
of offenders and for measurement and evaluation purposes.
At the event were the State Comptroller of Immigration, Dibia Ifeoma,
the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Moji Fafure and the
Ekiti Head of Market Women, Mrs. Waye Osho among others.
