FROM NATIONS CUP. By Tunde Busari
What do Cameroon and Zimbabwe national teams protests against their respective football federation tell at the Afcon in Egypt? What does FIFA intervention in CAF tell?
Both say we are not serious in this continent. No wonder our youths are glued to European Leagues in EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and others.
When entitlements of players and officials turn to subject of contest in camps here, then something which is not normal is definitely wrong with us. I mean, we are abnormal and, thus, unfit to share sports space with the normal of this world.
The claim by the frustrated Indomitable Lions as contained in their letter, a copy of which is available online, is a shame on their football authorities until the latter proves today that the players are a team of incurable liars. Baba Chief Adegboye Onigbinde must be enjoying his laugh reading those comedy lines.
It is pointless to aver that when sports administration is abandoned in the hands of greedy guts whose only mission in office is to grab and grab all that are available to grab, players anger nay revolt is inevitable.
And when these players react to the insult on their sensibilities, sadly a section of the public, the gullible section, in particular would go to town and seek the head of the innocent players.
Nobody should blackmail these Cameroon and Zimbabwe players with sick appeal to patriotism, for a patriotic head of a federation would even mobilise his or her personal resources to keep the camp going long before government releases fund.
The situation now is that aside these two countries, one cannot really say other teams are not also waiting in the wing to querry their authorities over their Afcon budget. But I trust Nigeria, my country. Whether my trust is real or satirical, however, time will tell. All the best, Super Eagles.
