state commissioner who is either not stealing money or isn’t stealing enough money, couldn’t afford a return ticket for himself and his spouse from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Airport to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja to attend his state governor’s daughter’s wedding.
The return ticket pricing of N400K each is way more than his monthly salary, and if you add two days hotel accommodation, feeding and local transportation, would be over the roof for the gentleman. So they resorted to charter a GUO Transport Ltd’s Toyota Sienna vehicle from Awka to Abuja instead, and unfortunately were kidnapped along the way in Kogi State, while losing an accompanying friend who was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle to a direct hit of the kidnappers gunshots.
Such private functions of the governor are deemed as semi-official engagements of state. As a government appointee, there are real and imagined consequences for non-attendance.
This is the reality of the present day badly administered Nigeria, with a battered economy, and a worsening state of insecurity never before witnessed in her history.
