Ekiti State Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi has distributed in cheques, a sum of One Hundred and Eighty Million Naira (N180, 000,000.00) to 18 communities in the state for execution of basic projects.
Outlined projects for execution in these communities include; Water Projects, Electricity Supply to Rural Communities, Culverts and Drainages construction among others.
Speaking at the function, while Governor Fayemi handed over the cheques to leaders of the benefitting communities, Information & Communications Officer for Ekiti State Community and Social Development Agency, Alhaji Dauda Lawal said the projects were carefully selected by leaders of these communities and will be duly implemented by them as well, with close supervision of the government.
“The sustainability of these projects also dwells on the leaders of the communities. According to the rules of engagement, any member-community who violates the rules will be sanctioned accordingly.
“The payment is in three stages; the first stage of payment commissions each community to begin execution while the next phase is the release of funds after passing the assessment of the government. The third stage is carried out when the projects have fully reached the stage of completion.
“The government has made provision for adequate monitoring and evaluation of projects undertaken by each of these communities as there are several other projects to be executed by other communities who are yet to benefit from the programme,” he said.
