Gunmen have abducted more than 30 girls from villages in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. They also killed a number of people during the attack.
The villages attacked include Sakkiɗa and Janbako on Saturday. The gunmen reportedly killed over 20 people in Sakkiɗa and left many injured.
A resident told the BBC Hausa that more than 30 girls and women were abducted from Gora village while fetching firewood from Ɗaggera forest.
He said “The gunmen had earlier informed us that we must enter into an agreement before they will allow us access to our farms. But we don’t know why they took our girls away.”
“we still haven’t heard anything from them yet, but security operatives are on their trail.”
Another resident told the BBC that they were in their houses when words reached them that gunmen were attacking the neighbouring Sakkiɗa village.
“Without wasting any time, our people mobilised to help but they were ambushed along the way. We have buried 22 people here,” he said.
He added that when the security agents were informed, they said they couldn’t come at the time because their operational vehicle was not there.
“The security operatives later came and followed the gunmen. They however returned not long after with two motorcycles,” he said, adding that they don’t have the presence of any security personnel in their Janbako village.
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the attack, but said details were still sketchy.
