
Seven persons were killed over the weekend in three separate incidents in Kano, Kaduna and Maiduguri, Borno State.
Among those killed was an Assistant Comptroller of Prisons and a soldier.
In Kano, gunmen, operating on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, opened fire on a group of people on Zoo Road, killing five of them instantly.
Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, Magaji Musa, confirmed the incident.
From Kaduna came a report that a soldier serving in the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, was killed on Saturday evening in Rigasa area.
The soldier died as a result of gunshots when the military engaged some gunmen.
Another soldier in the team was reported to have been wounded in the shootout.
The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka, said: “Our men engaged a terrorist group in a gun battle at Sabon Gari, Rigasa area.
“In the process, the army suffered a casualty, where a soldier is killed and one other injured.
“We are still combing the area with a view to rounding up the remnant of the group who have gone into hiding in the area.
“We are therefore urging the public to please come forward and report anybody with gunshot wounds in the area.
“We are also urging the public to come forward with useful information about any suspicious movement in their area.”
In Maiduguri, an Assistant Comptroller of Prisons, simply identified as Mr. Loskirima, was also shot dead by gunmen.
Loskirima was said to have been shot on his way to work.
