Ignore mischief-makers, our administration has performed creditably well within 2yrs- Agege Chairman. By Nurudeen Adegbenro
The chairman of Agege Local Government, Alhaji Ganiu Egunjobi has tackled the comments credited to the House of Assembly Candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Hon. Auwal Tahir Maude and boasted that his administration has performed creditably well within two years.
Egunjobi, spoke exclusively to Hotnewsnaija Online, through his Senior Special Adviser on media, Rotimi Sulaiman.
Sulaiman accused the PDP chieftain of suffering from the hangover of his defeat to the candidate of All Progressives Congress, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa in Agege constituency 1.
He added that the facts about the successes of Egunjobi led Administration are opened to every Agege resident.
“He(Auwal) is suffering from the hangover of his defeat in the just concluded 2019 House of Assembly elections in Agege; on the platform of PDP which he lost woefully.
“The facts are there for everyone to see. Egunjobi led administration has built new classrooms at Salvation Army Primary School, Iloro and Oduduwa Primary Schools,” Rotimi added.
On the same vein, the media adviser said the chairman has given free school uniforms, exercise books and other valuable materials to large percentage of pupils in the local government.
Meanwhile, Egunjobi promised to continue his empowerment scheme aimed at supporting petty business owners and artisans.
The Chairman said he prioritised petty businesses to ensure the enterprises within the local government area enjoyed proper support to grow well.
“Since I took over the reins in July of 2017, the council has made it a tradition to support selected indigent business operators every month. The beneficiaries of the scheme are generally Agege residents from various sectors of our economy including
market women, men and artisans,” he said.
Contrary to the report from the opposition, the Council Chief said the criteria to qualify for monthly empowerment scheme are not rocket science. He explained: “It is just to be a struggling business owner and resident of Agege. It is my hope that thousands of such people, who are yet to benefit from the scheme will one day enjoy it.”
He added that Agege Local Government recently empowered another forty indigent residents, who are into private businesses with #100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each, bringing the number of the residents of its mostly financial empowerment programme to over 300.
On his own account, Sulaiman said the empowerment scheme of the council is in different forms.
“ Agege local government has its empowerment programme in different forms. We have vocational training and direct empowerment scheme. For the vocational training, the council has increased the units from three to five by adding carpentry/furniture and shoe making units. In fact, hundreds of our young school levers have benefited from the vocational training in recent times and local government is now patronising them in the making of school bags, uniforms, chairs and tables for our school pupils, “he said.
On insecurity, Egunjobi’s media adviser said the issue of “Awawa boys” has been a major headache of the chairman and he is trying to tackle the menace permanently.
“Awawa boys issue is a major headache to Agege local government chairman. Their issues are re-creation of Nigerian society. Some of them are products of broken homes. But the executive chairman is engaging state agencies to solve the menace permanently, ”Rotimi expatiated.
He later reiterated the commitment of Egunjobi’s administration to further give dividends of democracy to all residents of Agege in respect of their religions , races or descents.
Sulaiman urged the residents to ignore any propaganda being peddled by the opposition party against the administration of Ganiyu Egunjobi.
