Chris Anaelechi Obasi, Managing Director of Zeta-Web Nigeria and a central figure in a simmering kingship dispute in Imo State, has been allegedly abducted from his home in Graceland Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
According to family sources, Obasi was taken around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, by unidentified men suspected to be linked with the Tiger Base unit in Owerri, Imo State. The incident occurred just two days before a scheduled court hearing concerning the traditional rulership tussle in Eziama Ikeduru Autonomous Community, where Obasi is widely recognised as the rightful heir.
The kingship dispute stems from the death of his father, H.R.H. Eze C.A. Obasi Oparaugo (Ekwueme Orji I of Eziama Ikeduru), whose passing left a vacuum in the community’s traditional leadership. As his only son, Obasi is seen by many as the legitimate successor. However, his claim has faced fierce opposition from rival factions allegedly working to impose a different candidate and block his formal recognition by the state.
Sources close to the family believe the abduction is politically motivated, aimed at derailing his chances of being crowned. The timing—just before a crucial court session—has further fueled suspicion of foul play.
Before assuming his role as Zeta-Web MD in July 2018, Obasi held the position of General Manager, Information Technology and Facilities, at MultiChoice Nigeria. So far, no official statement has been issued by law enforcement agencies, and it is unclear whether an investigation has begun.
The Obasi family is urging security operatives to act swiftly to secure his release and ensure that those behind the abduction are brought to justice.
