…swearing-in ceremony for aides unknown to public service rules. By John Mayaki
The embattled governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has laid the foundation for another fraud and avenue to fleece the state treasury with the announcement of a purported swearing-in ceremony for personal aides such as Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants, a move unknown to civil or public service rules and never before done in the history of governance.
These unknown aides, many of whom are coming at the twilight of the failed administration, are asked in a statement signed by the governor’s media adviser to gather in a hall for the clownish swearing-in ceremony.
www.JohnMayaki.com observed that the names of these aides have been concealed and unknown to the public owing to the nature of the secrecy of the Obaseki led administration.
According to civil/public service rules, only senior government officials such as the Governor, Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners and Special Advisers enjoy the privilege of being sworn-in to serve the state. Not even the Chief of Staff who is considered the governor’s administrative aide is allowed such privilege.
The said ceremony is yet another show of nothingness by the directionless administration and drainpipe for the siphoning of funds. The aides who remain unknown are not expected to be assigned any portfolio and many of them, provided they exist and are actual human beings, will be consigned to mango trees where they will be serving from.
That the governor and his team are not aware of simple civil/public service rules which hold that personal aides are merely handed letters and asked to resume without the pomp and pageantry of any ceremony further underlines the cluelessness of the Obaseki-administration and the governor’s excessive focus on destructive politics, a factor that is now taking serious toll and his reasoning and actions.
It is sad that the governor is out of any serious activity to show to the people, hence his resort to ceremonies where sycophants gather to lavish praises on him in exchange for bribery. Since his emergence, he is yet to commission any landmark project initiated under his watch and has spent most time out of the state, languishing in choice hotels at the expense of the public.
