In a firm declaration, joint security agencies led by Kano Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel have committed to upholding a Federal High Court order preventing the Kano State government from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. The court’s decision maintains Aminu Bayero as the Emir of Kano.
Police Commissioner Gumel, alongside senior security officials from the military and the Department of State Services (DSS), emphasized their dedication to preserving peace and unity within the state amidst the ongoing issues surrounding the Emirate Council. “Our joint security resolved to keep peace in Kano, and the development surrounding the Emirates Council; the Police Command respects the court order, alongside other security agencies, and we have resolved to ensure that we keep peace in the state,” Gumel stated.
Addressing rumors about an arrest warrant for the dethroned Emir Bayero, Gumel clarified that no such directive had been received by the police, dismissing reports as mere social media speculation. “We will not be compelled by anybody to carry out any assignment,” he affirmed.
Gumel reiterated the security agencies’ commitment to the court’s directive, stressing that any attempt to disrupt public order would be met with swift action. “As far as the situation of the Emirate is concerned, we recognize the Emir who was there as stated by the Court, and we are only respecting Court orders which says status quo should be maintained and that is where we stay and stand,” he affirmed.
He warned that anyone attempting to incite trouble would face immediate arrest. “Miscreants are advised to stay away from causing havoc in the State, as the safety of the people remains sacrosanct,” he concluded.
