Ekiti state government has reassured pregnant and nursing mothers of
its efforts to ensure safe delivery in every government health
facility.

Modified Life Saving Skill Training Programme for Senior Health
Extension Workers (CHEWs) in Ekiti State.
Dr. Yaya-Kolade disclosed that various studies have shown that
countries where skilled birth attendants are very low tend to have
high rates of maternal complications and deaths.
“It is my hope that at the end of this training, participants would
have acquired needed skills to improve the process and outcome of
pregnancy, thereby reducing pregnancy related complications and
ensuring safe delivery”. She noted.
The Commissioner, who was represented at the ceremony by the Permanent
Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi, said
that the participants would also learn to scale up utilization of
health facility services leading to noticeable reduction in Maternal
and Neonatal deaths.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairman State Primary Health Care
Development Agency, Chief (Mrs.) Monisola Oloro, said that the ongoing
efforts of the Ekiti state government to prevent Maternal and
Perinatal Mortality is taking a leading role in the reduction of
Maternal, neonatal and child mortality among his counterparts all over
the country.
“The purpose of the training is to equip the Community Health
Extension Workers with appropriate knowledge on child birth, to
improve the skills of CHEWs in Maternal and child health care services
and to enable CHEWs acquire skills in early diagnosis and recognition
of ‘at-risk’ pregnant women for referral “. The Chairman noted.
Mrs. Oloro urged the participants to make the best use of the
opportunity created by the training.
In her remark, the Permanent Secretary, Primary Health Care
Development Agency, Pharmacist Olabisi Arogundade, appreciated Dr.
Kayode Fayemi for giving priority to the health of Ekiti Mothers and
children which now takes prominence in Ekiti health care service
delivery under his administration.

mothers and pregnant women to patronise government health centres for
skilled medical services.

across Ekiti State.
