The search for a missing 100-level student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has ended in tragedy. The student, identified only as Favour, was a medical laboratory science major who disappeared after attending her chemistry practical on Tuesday.
Sources reveal that Favour, who lived off-campus, was last seen heading back from her practical session.
Favour’s body was discovered on Friday evening behind Eni-Njoku male hostel within the university grounds. A video showing the body, seemingly discarded in a gutter, has been widely circulated on social media.
Sky Okafor, a pharmacy student residing in the hostel, believes the body was placed there by the perpetrators. “It was a shock to everyone. Nobody has any idea of what happened to her,” Okafor said.
Another resident, Iyke Agbo, mentioned that the body was found around 7 p.m. but was not approached due to the strong odor. “I have not heard that anything like this ever happened around this hostel before,” Agbo added.
Efforts to get an official statement from the university have been futile. Calls to the university spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, and the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Edwin Omeje, went unanswered. They also did not respond to text messages.
An anonymous university official disclosed that he learned of the incident via social media. He suggested that the heavy rain on Tuesday might have caused flooding, potentially sweeping the body from outside the university to the hostel area.
“The university should be able to appraise the true situation and then make an official statement by Monday,” he noted.
