My generation started the kind of values decline that Nigerians has now become identified with. We largely started the dynamics we then called ‘Odu’ we created urban myths around red mercury and many stole from their parents to cover the pretend lifestyle of a hustler as early in 70s as the Udoji awards swarmed households with oil money. Even as early as that time a few never made it out of secondary school. They became real street beyond our pretend street. The foundation of life of easy wealth and conspicuous consumption with clothes made and bought for School Lit events and dance. Maybe it would have taken a few more years before the rot would have set in but NPN was the adult version form of haywire materialism . Oil sickness in government translated to champagne lifestyle and the rot of materialistic living became the National goal. It was too late for Buhari WAI because the taste had set in London , Dc , Chicago the International Nigerian life style was established. These became the romantic idyll. Now generation after generation expects this default at any cost. How does it ever change? Every where you go you see how we expect every household to have 3 cars even though they barely need one. Every room to have air conditioners even done effective design would make even one unnecessary. The demand of mint to spray with people selling them at premium on sideline of parties! Simply it means what it is now! Drugs, kidnapping , fraud or anything goes to have the lifestyle.
