MY LAST TAKE ON THE DAKOLO/FATOYINBO SAGA. By Richard Akinnola
“If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?” – Psalm 130:3
Now that the Dakolos have formally lodged a complaint with the police over the alleged rape of Busola Dakolo, that is the right direction to take in the circumstance.
So, if you are Christian in the true sense of the word, irrespective of your outrage over the despicable act, it’s now your responsibility to pray for the alleged victim and the alleged perpetrator, not to be continuously stabbing, figuratively, the alleged rapist.
When soldiers are at war and a comrade is fatally injured in the battle, fellow soldiers don’t kill the wounded but he is treated and restored. That is why the international law forbids the torture of Prisoners of War (POW). A fellow Christian soldier has been caught as a POW. Negotiate for his release by way of prayers for his restoration. This is no time to kill the wounded. If this allegation is true, it may be God’s way of helping Biodun to deal with this character flaw. We are all in the race. We fall, we rise and continue. This is an individual race. Making a mockery of another person who tripped in the race, won’t make you get the trophy. Even an actress who snatched his fellow actress’ hubby and married him, is busy belching out gibberish in the social media instead of dealing with her own character flaws. This same woman, when her late husband died years ago, his family accused her of some of the things she is today accusing Biodun of.
Let the law take its course and help your brethren get back on his feet. Killing him at his most vulnerable state would not grant you visa to heaven. In fact, there would be surprises on the last day. Many people who are vociferous in killing the wounded because the nature of the sin of the wounded can be seen, also have their own personal sins like anger, jealousy, envy, unforgiveness, strife etc. In the eyes of God, these are no lesser sins. Some people have grace in certain areas and they tend to rubbish fellow brethren who struggle in those areas. If we were all perfect, we won’t be daily asking God for His mercy. Some people’s wicknesses may be about money. They can’t be trusted with money but they can pray and call fire from heaven and live an almost celibate lifestyle. And there are people who would never touch your one Naira, irrespective of the temptation but are weak when it comes to women.
There are some pastors in the UK and US who had been sent to prison, not for sexual issues but for financial fraud. Some of them came back from prison stronger and better Christians.
How are we dealing with the issues of rape and pedophilia by Rev. Fathers in the Vatican? It’s a major issue that successive Popes have been grappling with.
Rape is as heinous as murder. Good that the matter is now with the police.
In the Bible, we have seen people with several character flaws like David, who ended well. In fact, when David, in the cave of Adullam, had the opportunity to kill Saul, when Saul was in his most vulnerable state, he said he would not lift his finger against Saul, in spite of all of Saul’s atrocities against him. Even when David received the news of the death of Saul in the battle, he wept and mourned. He didn’t rejoice that his traducer had died. So, don’t allow your righteous indignation against the alleged perfidious act of your brethren lead you to sin against God. In this case, the matter is in the public domain, the law is about to take its course. What you owe the two dramatis personae now is prayer for the healing of the victim and restoration for the alleged rapist, as the law takes its course. Redirect your righteous anger towards the plight of your brethren in some northern parts of the country who are daily facing persecution.
And let’s meditate on this scripture as we work out our individual salvation with fear and trembling –
“Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.”
-1 Corinthian 10:12
