
The Officials of the National Library of Nigeria, Akure branch paid a visit to the Ado Ekiti Custodial center to Commemorate the 2019 Readership Promotion Campaign. The theme for this year’s campaign is Reading – A Tool For Empowering the Vulnerable .
The director of Akure branch of the National Library, Mrs Mojisola Ogunyemi in her speech stated that the main objective of the Campaign is to encourage and improve reading culture among inmates of Ado Ekiti Custodial center. She further appealed to the inmates to use their precious time while in custody to acquire knowledge through reading books that will better their lives rather than engaging in frivolous talks.
She thereafter, on behalf of the NLN presented series of books to the Custodial library and promised to partner with Nigerian Correctional Service, Ekiti State Command.
While responding to the gesture, the Controller of Correctional Service Ekiti State Command Mr Akinyemi Afolabi represented by ASC Babalola Foluso expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the officials for their benevolence. He adviced the inmates to reciprocate the kind gesture by making use of the books provided to improve on their reading culture and acquire knowledge that will benefit them after completing their jail terms.
He also urged the team not to relent in their effort at providing valuable books to the Custodial center for the benefit of the inmates.
