
A 38-year-old Nigerian national, identified as Seriki, was arrested in Cape Town, South Africa, after police discovered a large sum of money and multiple bank cards believed to be stolen.
The arrest was made by officers from the Provincial Operational Command Centre in Parklands on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk, the officers had received intelligence related to drug dealing and executed a search at a residence on Holly Crescent in Table View.
During the search, police uncovered more than R1 million (approximately N88 million) in both foreign and local currency, along with a bag containing bank cards registered under different names. Van Wyk stated that the individuals at the scene were unable to provide a legitimate explanation for the items found.
Seriki was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing stolen property and conspiring to commit cybercrime. He is expected to appear at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 15. Detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Commercial Unit are now leading the investigation, with the possibility of additional charges pending further developments.
