A time comes in the life of a people, a community or even an individual that he experiences the ecstasy of humanity.
Unfortunately however, some country never get to experience that big moment in their lifetime, so they don’t get to know how it feels.
As Nigerians we have never felt that big moment when governance hits the ground and running… the moment of impact. The frills and thrills of nationhood, the joy and accompanying happiness of impactful governance and leadership.
The reason is simple, we are not willing to oversight lesdership and governance. Nigerians are docile, they are not governance conscious and right demanding.
Rwandans said never again would Reandans kill Rwandans regardless of tribe and religion! They began oversighting governance and hate speech became a red line not even the government can cross. Today Rwanda is about the most progressive African nation.
When it is said that power belongs to the people, what it means is that the people coming together would wield more power then even the military. But Nigerians are neither willing to come together and harness the power of their numbers nor are they willing to stand up against anything, always looking for those to make the sacrifices on their behalf.
We are not able to oversight the government, we are not able to oversight the police, the banks, the telecoms, the bad roads and not even able to oversight our kids now on the roads as area boys.
We do not need another Gani Fawaehinmi, Fela Anikulapo Kuti or any of such heroes past.
We as citizens must become our own heroes when we start by at least oversighting policing and security within our own immediate locality.
Government’s instincts for performance administrative excellence will be activated when citizens stand up to demand for their security and welfare.
