It’s unfortunate that the Nigerian media, or some media voices are not setting the right narratives in respect of a rather NOVEL and I dare say, CREATIVE way of confronting the security challenges that the South West region has been facing for almost two years now. This unique INTERVENTIONIST ORGANIZATION brings on board, some policemen, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp, operatives contributed to the operation by the security forces and more importantly, members of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC.
From all that has been said, This is an Operation. A security operation has a duration, usually when the condition that necessitated it no longer exists.. This is not a regional police as some of my colleagues are leading the public to believe. Operation Amotekun is not and cannot supplant the Nigeria police in the South West, or obliterate the armed forces in the South West. The suggestion that The South West zone is planning a subversion of the Federal structure is pedestrian and alarmist.
Perhaps, it needs to be stressed that Nigeria is perhaps the only Federal system where security is so Centralized as to have just ONE POLICE FORCE. It is not so in other federations. In some Federations, even institutions of government, like the judiciary and the legislature have police of their own, both for security and operations. In those climes, this does not stop the police from its primary duties. Security is everyone’s responsibility.
This is the narrative that the media and influlencial media voices should be pushing, not raising unnecessary fears of secession or what have you
