The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Akure, the capital of Ondo state, has been abruptly closed. The shutdown of the secretariat has prompted the presence of both the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS).
This sudden development is closely linked to the rising frustration among PDP members regarding the prolonged absence and undisclosed location of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Governor Akeredolu had returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical vacation in Germany to address an undisclosed ailment.
However, unsettling reports suggest that since his return, Governor Akeredolu has primarily resided at his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state. This unexpected relocation has fueled criticism of his administration and intensified demands for his resignation by his detractors.
The PDP, the primary opposition party in the state, escalated the situation by declaring their intention to stage a massive protest in Akure, specifically aimed at seeking clarity on Governor Akeredolu’s whereabouts.
At the time of this report, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo state, was not immediately available for comment, leaving the situation with many questions yet to be answered.
