Screening, selection will be purely on merit – Education Commissioner.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,
Mr. Foluso Daramola has assured that the process of screening and
selection of beneficiaries of Ekiti State Scholarship from the over 2,
000 applicants must be transparent, fair and based on merit.
The Commissioner made the statement while reeling out the yardstick
while inaugurating the Committee set up by the State Government to
screen and verify the over two thousand applications for the
scholarship in his office in Ado-Ekiti.
He provided a breakdown of the applicants, saying over 200 applied for
PhD abroad, 439 applied for PhD in Nigeria, 519 applied for Master’s
Degree in Nigeria, while 956 undergraduates applied in Nigeria
universities for scholarship.
The Commissioner gave the Committee seven days to complete the
screening and verification; adding that the State Government planned
to disburse the money to successful beneficiaries in the shortest time
possible.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Scholarship
Board, Dr. Bimpe Osundare, promised that the committee would meet the
7-day deadline.
She disclosed that one million and five hundred (#1.5 million) naira
would be given to those pursuing PhD overseas, while Masters Overseas
would get five hundred (#500, 000) thousand naira, applicants having
their PhD in Nigerian universities would get seven hundred and fifty
(#750, 000) thousand naira while Masters in Nigerian universities
would get two hundred and fifty (#250,000) thousand naira.
Beneficiaries in the undergraduate and HND category would get sixty
(#60, 000) thousand naira as scholarship.
Other members of the Committee are Technical Adviser to Dr Kayode
Fayemi , Dr (Mrs) Bimpe Kofoworola Aderiye, Technical Adviser to Mr
Governor on Tertiary Education, Dr Sikiru Emiola, Special Assistant to
Mr Governor on Youths Matters Mr Moses Ademiloye , Permanent Secretary
and Solicitor General Ministry of Justice, Mr Ojo Lawrence, and
Directors from the State Scholarship Board.
